ERCOT NOGRR 245 Ride-Through Evaluation

ERCOT's revised voltage and frequency ride-through requirements evaluated for new and existing inverter-based resources and wind plants.

About this module

What this module covers.

Nodal Operating Guide Revision Request (NOGRR) 245 revised the ERCOT Nodal Operating Guide to significantly change the voltage and frequency ride-through requirements for transmission-connected inverter-based resources (IBRs) and Type 1 and Type 2 wind-powered generation resources (WGRs) in the ERCOT system. The requirements exceed IEEE 2800-2022 in some ways and apply to new IBRs as well as existing IBRs operating in ERCOT. NOGRR 245 requires Resource Entities to "maximize" their ride-through capability, including every software-based update available to them, and to report that capability to ERCOT in the Initial Frequency Ride-Through Capability Report (IFRTCR) and Initial Voltage Ride-Through Capability Report (IVRTCR). ERCOT set the reporting deadline at April 1, 2025, with subsequent actions required by December 31, 2025 unless an extension or exception was granted; both dates have passed. This module covers the ongoing NOGRR 245 compliance assessment workflow, including the response to ERCOT Market Notice M-A010825-06 (the NOGRR 245 ride-through capability request for information), the IFRTCR and IVRTCR capability reports, and exemption or extension request support.

Support services

What GridStrong does inside this module.

  • Review the current state of each plant's NOGRR 245 data and identify any deficiencies against ERCOT Market Notice M-A010825-06.
  • Gather and populate the required information into the IFRTCR and IVRTCR templates.
  • Document resource-specific ride-through capabilities and technical limitations for submission to ERCOT.
  • Support preparation of any exemption requests, extension requests, or related documentation required by ERCOT.

Final deliverables

  • Completed IFRTCR and IVRTCR reports ready for ERCOT submission.
  • NOGRR 245 compliance evidence package.

What we need from you

  • Plant-specific ride-through capability information (voltage and frequency).
  • Protection and control settings for inverters, power plant controllers (PPCs), and balance of plant relays.
  • Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) documentation on technical limitations of installed equipment.
  • Prior submissions to ERCOT (April 1, 2025 RFI response, if applicable).

Assumptions and considerations

How the scope is bounded.

  • You supply all required plant documentation and settings.
  • We will use engineering judgment and best practices to identify deficiencies and recommend compliance paths.
  • This scope focuses on the compliance assessment and documentation workflow. Model updates required to achieve maximized ride-through capability are covered under the separate "NOGRR 245 Maximization Model Updates" module.
