PSCAD Plant Model Development

A PSCAD plant model built from OEM unit and controller models and the site's electrical parameters, benchmarked against the PSS/E model.

About this module

What this module covers.

The PSCAD model of your inverter-based resource (IBR) plant is developed using the original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-supplied IBR unit and power plant controller (PPC) models, and the electrical parameters (generator step-up transformer, collector equivalent, main power transformer, tie line, etc.) of the site to build an IBR plant representation. The existing PSS/E model can be used as a starting point for the effort, as well as site-specific details.

At a glance

  • Model Workspace Management: your plant's simulation model files kept in one dashboard workspace, with version tracking
  • PSCAD Simulations

Support services

What GridStrong does inside this module.

  • Develop the PSCAD model of the site based on the electrical parameters of the IBR plant and the OEM-supplied models.
  • Configure the PSCAD model with compliant settings.
  • Test and verify that the model functions properly and adequately meets basic model acceptance criteria.

Final deliverables

  • The aggregate PSCAD model package of the IBR plant and corresponding documentation that describes the model.

What we need from you

  • PSCAD model(s) of the facility including the inverter and power plant controller (PPC) models. The OEMs shall provide these models, including DC-side representation, which may include DC-DC converter(s).
  • Inverter PQ capability, inverter data sheets, control narratives or philosophies.
  • As-left settings of inverters, PPC or proposed settings.
  • Single line diagrams of the facility.
  • User manuals, datasheets, and documentation including instructions for setting up and running the PSCAD model.

Assumptions and considerations

How the scope is bounded.

  • This module assumes the OEM-supplied models represent the applicable devices and function properly, and that they interoperate when connected together for the IBR plant model. It includes one round with an OEM to fix errors or issues in the supplied models; further work is additional support at an hourly rate, approved in writing.

Run this module on one site.

Tell us the plant and the deadline. An engineer confirms the inputs, the schedule and what the Dashboard needs from you.
