EOP-004-4 Generation Loss Event Reporting

Generation losses found in your plant data and compared with the reporting threshold for your Interconnection, with each report tracked from clock start to submission.

About this module

What this module covers.

EOP-004-4 requires each Responsible Entity to report the events listed in EOP-004-4 Attachment 1 to the entities named in its event reporting Operating Plan by the later of 24 hours after recognizing that an event meets a reporting threshold or the end of the Responsible Entity's next business day (4 p.m. local time) (R2). Loss of generation is one of the Attachment 1 event types, with a threshold set for each Interconnection.

This module compares the generation losses found in your plant's supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data with the Attachment 1 loss-of-generation threshold for your Interconnection and, when the threshold is met, starts the reporting clock and records the completed event reporting form and its submission.

At a glance

Module: 075
Kind: Event analysis
Governing body: NERC
Applies to: Operating plants
Typical time: Days per event, not weeks

Dashboard capabilities

  • Each day of your SCADA data is screened for generation losses, and each loss is compared with the Attachment 1 loss-of-generation threshold and window for your Interconnection; if your Interconnection is not on file, you are told why no verdict can be given.
  • A loss that meets the threshold is reported as a finding naming the megawatts (MW) lost and the window; a smaller loss is reported with its shortfall; every result cites the Attachment 1 clause applied.
  • From a finding you open the EOP-004-4 event reporting workflow with the event time and MW already filled in, and a reporting task is created on your plant.
  • You record the event reporting form, the submission (to whom and when), and the supporting evidence in one place.
  • You receive an event report carrying the completed form, in the same format as our other event review reports.

Support services

What GridStrong does inside this module.

Task 1: Event Reporting Review (for each finding)

  • Confirm the generation loss, its time, and its magnitude from your plant data
  • Prepare the event reporting form content for your submission
  • Confirm the recipients against your event reporting Operating Plan

Final deliverables

  • Task 1: Completed event reporting form and event report for each finding, with the submission record.

What we need from you

  • SCADA exports of plant real power for the event period.
  • The Interconnection your plant operates in, which sets the loss-of-generation threshold.
  • Your event reporting Operating Plan and its list of recipients.

Assumptions and considerations

How the scope is bounded.

  • Only the loss-of-generation event type is screened; event types that cannot be detected from plant data (such as physical threats or loss of voice communication) are out of scope.
  • You submit the report; this module records the submission.
  • Developing the event reporting Operating Plan is covered by Module 012.
  • We do not assume liability for any data or information you supply that is inaccurate or incorrect.
