Model Build Wizard

A PSS/E model built in the dashboard from steady-state and control data, with no model package to start from.

About this module

What this module covers.

Build a PSS/E model for your plant in the dashboard, with no model package to start from. A two-step wizard collects the steady-state data and the control parameters, then generates the power flow and dynamic models with compliant protection settings.

At a glance

Module: 083
Kind: Modeling studies
Governing body: Any region
Applies to: Before and after commercial operation
Typical time: Generated in the dashboard once the inputs are complete

Dashboard capabilities

  • Two-step build wizard: Steady-State, then Dynamic control parameters
  • Grid-following and grid-forming plants, supported equally: solar PV, battery storage and wind
  • Protection settings: trip settings only, or trip plus IEEE 2800 ride-through curves
  • Point of interconnection, main power transformer, and machine data inputs, with defaults for blank fields
  • Save a draft and generate the model later
  • The generated model opens in Model Verification, ready for simulation

Support services

What GridStrong does inside this module.

Final deliverables

  • PSS/E power flow model of the plant
  • PSS/E dynamic model with the selected protection settings
  • The model on the plant's Models page, ready for verification and simulation

What we need from you

  • Plant type and nameplate rating
  • Point of interconnection voltage and short-circuit data
  • Main power transformer ratings and impedance
  • Machine data: voltage setpoint and reactive limits
  • Plant controller and inverter control parameters, or accept the defaults

Assumptions and considerations

How the scope is bounded.

  • The model uses generic dynamic models, not OEM-specific user models.
  • Fields left blank use GridStrong defaults. Check them against your plant's real equipment before you submit a study.
  • PSCAD model building is a separate module.
