Forward Deployed Engineer
Moves a customer's systems and workstreams into the Dashboard and automates the next migration.
About the role
What this role is for.
A customer's compliance evidence lives in a GRC tool, their plant documents in SharePoint and file shares, their operator notices in an inbox feeding a spreadsheet, and their equipment settings in a hundred relay and OEM files. GridStrong replaces all of it with the Dashboard, and the proof that it worked is that the customer's people work there every day. The migration is where that starts.
You will execute those migrations beside a Forward Deployed Manager: inventory the sources, map them to the Dashboard data model, build and run the import, validate that nothing was lost and support the cutover. Then you turn what you built into tooling so the next migration is faster.

Works with: The Director of Forward Deployed Engineering, Forward Deployed Managers, Applied AI, Compliance Services, and the IT, compliance and asset management staff at customers.
What you will do
- Inventory a customer's source systems and workstreams and map them to the Dashboard's plants, equipment, documents, evidence and task model.
- Build and run imports from SharePoint, file shares, GRC platforms, spreadsheets and email, with validation reports the customer can check.
- Write extraction and classification pipelines for documents and settings files so plant profiles populate from the customer's own records.
- Support cutover with the Forward Deployed Manager: user setup, permissions, training materials and the first weeks of live use.
- Generalize each migration into reusable tooling and contribute it to the production codebase or the import and export workflows.
- Fix what breaks during a migration quickly and report it so the engine improves.
- Keep migration tasks visible to the customer in the Dashboard.
What we are looking for
- Three or more years in software engineering, with real experience moving data between systems.
- Strong Python; comfortable reading and contributing to a Ruby on Rails application.
- Experience with document-heavy, inconsistent data and the validation habits that come with it.
- Customer-facing: you can sit with an asset manager and work out what a column actually meant.
- Clear written communication in Slack and in the Dashboard.
- Self-directed and dependable in a results-only environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with GRC platforms, SharePoint APIs or email ingestion.
- Energy or utility domain exposure.
- Experience with document extraction and structured data pipelines.
The first 90 days
- You have executed a migration beside a Forward Deployed Manager and the customer is working in the Dashboard.
- One piece of that migration is now reusable tooling.
- You can explain the customer data model to a new teammate.
